Our mission as the parish community of Our Lady of Hope is to give witness to the love of Jesus in our families, our parish community and the world.
Please see the FAQ page for information on our COVID safety measures.
The parish of Our Lady of Hope was established in 2009 as the result of a merger of two parish communities:
St. Bridget (Copake Falls) and St. John Vianney (Churchtown). The parish of St. John Vianney was established in 2005 as a result of a merger of Holy Cross (Taghkanic) and Sacred Heart (Philmont).
St. Bridget Church had been established as a mission church in 1866, then made a parish in the present church building in 1958. Sacred Heart Church was established officially as a mission church in 1895. Holy Cross was established in 1956 as a mission of Resurrection Parish in Germantown. For more information on our history see this document: ParishHistory
Our history includes three parish communities who have experienced many changes and now are one community of about 400 registered parishioners. Some members live at a distance but worship here on weekends. Some reside in the area but spend the winter months in a warmer climate. We also have many visiting vacationers during the summer months. We are a community with a rich history and a frequently changing population.
Our parish has a wonderful spirit and all of us together make that possible. Many people, who were here before us, believed that God is bringing us together and guiding our steps. They often asked, "What if …?" or "Why not …?" They gave thanks for what is and they hoped for what could be. We ask the same questions and share the same hope. Those who come after us will continue the same tradition that has been fashioned by the people of Our Lady of Hope, St. Bridget, St. John Vianney, Sacred Heart and Holy Cross.
